In the third annual NMC Scholars Program, the National Mastitis Research Foundation (NMRF) Board of Directors chose four graduate students as the 2010 NMC Scholars.
The program’s goal is to encourage graduate student participation in NMC programs and activities. Funded by the NMRF, this year’s NMC Scholars will receive travel scholarships to attend the NMC 49th Annual Meeting, January 31 – February 3, 2010, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. [Read full story.]
Graduate students with an area of interest that includes mastitis control and quality milk production are encouraged to apply for the NMC Scholars Program. Successful applicants will receive a travel scholarship to attend the 49th NMC Annual Meeting, January 31-February 3, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A maximum of four scholarships will be awarded. Graduate students Rick Watters, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York; Jennifer McCarron, Atlantic Veterinary College, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada; Wilma Steeneveld, Utrecht University, The Netherlands; and Patricia Yoshida Faccioli, Universidade Estadual Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil, were recognized as NMC Scholars during the recent NMC 48th Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The NMC Scholars Program provides travel scholarships for graduate students to attend NMC annual meetings and encourage their involvement in NMC programs and activities. The National Mastitis Research Foundation (NMRF) recognized four graduate students as NMC Scholars during the NMC 47th Annual Meeting, January 20-23, 2008, in New Orleans.
This year’s NMC Scholars included Kasey Moyes, University of Illinois, USA; Jolanda Jansen, Wageningen University, The Netherlands; Laura Solano, Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica; and Jose Pantoja, University of Wisconsin, USA. NMRF board members selected scholars based on academic performance, research project and an essay describing their career goals. Each recipient received a travel scholarship to attend the NMC Annual Meeting and enrich their graduate education.
“The 2008 NMC Scholars are excellent representatives of the many quality graduate and veterinary students around the world focusing their studies on mastitis and milk quality. Jolanda, Kasey, Laura and Jose each brought a fresh view and energy to the annual meeting, which reassures the future of mastitis research and continued success of the NMC,” said former NMC President Joe Hogan, The Ohio State University. Hogan currently serves as the NMRF president.
